Function
Efficacy of Rotundine
1 The product has analgesic, sedative, hypnotic and tranquilizing effects. Its analgesic effect is weaker than that of pethidine and stronger than that of general antipyretic and analgesic drugs. It has no respiratory depression at therapeutic doses and does not cause smooth muscle spasm in the gastrointestinal tract. It has better effect on chronic persistent pain and visceral dull pain, but less effect on acute acute pain (such as post-surgical pain, traumatic pain, etc.) and advanced cancer pain. It can cause sedation and hypnosis while producing analgesic effect. The mechanism of action of this product is yet to be elucidated and may be related to the blocking of dopamine receptor function in the brain by inhibiting the brainstem reticular up-activation system. Therapeutic doses are not addictive.
2 Protective effects on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury
Rotundine significantly prolonged the survival time of cerebral ischemic mice, enhanced the activities of superoxide dismutase and lactate dehydrogenase in brain tissue, and reduced the content of malondialdehyde and nitric oxide, lipid peroxidation products in brain tissue.
