Eucommia bark contains 6%-10% eucommia gum, which is soluble in ethanol and insoluble in water. Eucommia leaves contain lignans, cyclic allyl ether terpenes, flavonoids, polysaccharides and other compounds, of which chlorogenic acid, flavonoids and polysaccharides are the most widely used.

The active ingredient of Eucommia

Chlorogenic acid is an ester formed by caffeic acid and quinic acid. Its molecular structure has three unstable parts: ester bond, unsaturated double bond and polyphenol. 98% chlorogenic acid has a solubility of 4% in water at 25 ℃, and a greater solubility in hot water. It is easily soluble in ethanol and acetone, slightly soluble in ethyl acetate, and difficult to dissolve in lipophilic organic solvents.
The special structure of chlorogenic acid determines that it can be extracted from plants by polar solvents such as ethanol, acetone and methanol. However, due to the instability of chlorogenic acid itself, it cannot be extracted by high temperature, strong light and long time heating, and stored at low temperature in the dark.
