To harvest sap, workers first disinfect the tree trunk with 70% alcohol. They then use an 8–10 mm hand drill to drill a hole 2–3 cm deep at a 105-degree angle on the sunny side, 30–60 cm above the ground. A food-grade silicone drainage tube is inserted into the hole, allowing the sap to flow by gravity into a 5-liter sterile bag below. An adult birch tree with a 25 cm diameter at breast height (DBH) can produce 4–7 liters of fresh sap in 24 hours. The entire harvesting season, which lasts approximately 20 days, yields a total of 60–90 liters. After harvesting, the sap is immediately transported to the factory through a low-temperature cold chain. Filtering, sterilization, and concentration are completed within 3 hours to maximize the retention of heat-sensitive active ingredients such as betulin and polyphenols.
