What is Ceramide Powder?
Ceramide powder are a class of amide compounds formed by the dehydration reaction between long-chain fatty acids and the amino group of sphingosine. The main types include ceramide phosphorylcholine and ceramide phosphorylethanolamine. Phospholipids are key components of cell membranes. Ceramides account for 40%–50% of the lipids in the stratum corneum and constitute the major fraction of the intercellular matrix. They play a vital role in maintaining moisture balance within the stratum corneum.
Ceramides exhibit strong water-binding capacity. They retain skin moisture by forming a network structure in the stratum corneum. Therefore, ceramides help maintain skin hydration.
