Rice Yeast Extract is a traditional Chinese nutraceutical for food and nutraceutical. However, the real attention of red yeast rice to the international community can be traced back to the 1970s.
In 1979, Professor Akira Endo from Japan discovered and isolated the active substance monacolin K from the fermentation broth of red yeast rice. In 1985, American scientists Goldstein and Brown further found out the mechanism of Monacolin-k, and won the Nobel Prize for this. Red yeast rice is also famous.
